Surviving Extreme Pressure Under the Sea

Challenge: A major robotics manufacturer presented a unique requirement for an absolute encoder to survive extreme ocean depths.

Solution: We leveraged our in-house engineering from Germany and the U.S. to design a custom frameless solution using magnetic sensing technology. Working hand-in-hand through design validation and testing, we used direct customer feedback to refine the PCB design to withstand extreme pressure.

Advantage: The robotics manufacturer won new customers and accelerated discovery in oceans worldwide.

Enhanced Sealing for Outdoor Environments

Challenge: A global rail vehicle manufacturer battled persistent competitor encoder failure due to harsh outdoor conditions. Their unique environment required a feedback device to survive extreme shock, vibration, and moisture.

Solution: Our engineers jumped at the challenge of helping the customer solve for the harsh environments. After conducting a detailed failure mode analysis, our engineers quickly saw the opportunity to take an existing design and enhance sealing, adjust the bore protection, and optimize the internal component design.

Advantage: The industrial vehicle manufacturer provided accuracy using robust and reliable feedback to ensure rail car safety moving forward.

Withstanding Extreme Shock and Vibration

Challenge: A large custom off-highway vehicle designer encountered heavy shock and vibration in a new equipment design. The application includes periods of high stress and sudden motion, exacerbating shock and vibration and causing their existing feedback solution to fail.

Solutions: With experience in similar high-stress applications in multiple industries, our engineers were able to draw upon this knowledge further to optimize an existing encoder design for long life and operate in high-vibration environments by improving bearing design and retention methods.

Advantage: With these improvements, the equipment designer overcame the environmental challenges and offered a safe ride to the vehicle's passengers.
