Encoder Accuracy vs Resolution
Dynapar offers multiple options for bearingless encoders designed to survive tough environments where bearings would usually fail. Our bearingless encoders use magnetic sensing technology and consist of a magnetic pulse wheel that can be attached to a motor shaft and a read head or sensor attached to the motor frame or mounting bracket that detects pulses as the wheel rotates to provide speed feedback. Dynapar’s selection of bearingless encoders includes a variety of shaft sizes, housing materials and resolutions.

A bearingless encoder is a type of rotary encoder that tracks rotation without a physical connection to the rotating shaft, thereby not requiring bearings inside the encoder. Bearingless encoders rely on attaching the encoder sensor housing and rotating wheel directly to the motor housing to hold the components in place.
Bearingless encoders are typically designed with magnetic sensing technology, which provides superior resilience to dust, moisture and dirt when compared to optical encoders. Bearingless encoders also mount directly to the motor housing eliminating the need for bearings inside the encoder, which can reduce a potential wear point and prolong encoder life.
Bearingless encoders are ideal for rugged, heavy-duty applications where contaminants, extreme temperatures, shock, and vibration are present. Due to its unique design, the bearingless encoder can withstand conditions that would break down other types of encoders.
